Cardiac Sub-Study

This is a sub-study of the world-first GAME Study, seeking to further understand the impacts of gender-affirming hormone therapy on health.

The GAME Cardiac Sub-Study aims to assess how gender-affirming hormone therapy affects heart health in trans and gender diverse people.


Participants

Trans and gender diverse people (aged 18 to 50) who have received either oestrogen-based or testosterone-based gender-affirming hormone therapy continuously for at least two years.


Study Requirements

  • Online questionnaires.

  • Pathology sample.

  • Cardiac MRI.

  • Echocardiogram.

  • Cardiopulmonary exercise test.


Location and Duration

It will take about 4-5 hours to complete all three tests at Baker, which can be completed in one or two sessions. Testing will be held at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute (Commercial road).


Exclusion Criteria

Active cigarette use and other conditions that can affect cardiovascular health. Participants will be screened for eligibility via email.
